Q. Will you send an "application"? |
| A. No. All instructions and information necessary to apply for certification can be found at http://www.msi.ms/certs.htm. Please do not write asking for an "application" or "application packet". |
| Q. Will you send additional information? |
| A. Yes. However, all the information necessary to apply for certification is contained within the instructions (http://www.msi.ms/certs.htm#application). If you have a specific question that is not adequately addressed, your question will be answered. Please do not write asking for "additional information" or an "information packet". If you write asking for additional information, your questions must be very specific. If you write to MSI requesting information, include a daytime telephone number or an e-mail address. Requests for information will be answered only via e-mail or telephone. |
| Q. May I apply for more than one certification? |
| A. Yes. Your cover letter must mention the certifications for which you are applying. |
| Q. I am applying for more than one certification. Must I pay the full amount for each certification? |
| A. Yes. |
| Q. May I include unofficial transcripts instead of official transcripts in my application? |
| A. Yes, you may send unofficial transcripts with the application for the purpose expediting the application and review process. The application will be reviewed and scored using the unofficial transcripts. However, the certification will not be awarded until official transcripts are received. |
| Q. Why should I have certification through Management Science Institute and what value does certification have? |
| A. The decision to pursue certification, whether through MSI or any organization, is a very personal decision. The main benefit of certification is that it shows others, such as other professionals an potential employers, that you have been recognized by your peers as being an accomplished professional. |
| Q. Will you send me a list of courses that I can take through MSI leading to certification? A variant of this question is "do you have classes that lead to certification"? |
| A. The answer to both is no. We do not have a curriculum leading to certification. We do offer courses that can be counted toward certification but the certification process is intended to evaluate and recognize experience and education that you already have. Courses offered through MSI would only represent a very small portion of the overall requirement. |
| Q. Where can l take the required examination required for my certification? |
| A. You may take the examination anywhere in the World. Examinations must be proctored by an impartial person, one who is not directly related to you. Many schools have testing centers where you can take a supervised examination. For most candidates, it is easier to have their employers supervise the examination. You may have an employer proctor the examination at your place of employment. You need only to have the proctor, who is typically a person in the human resources department, sign a declaration that the test was taken by the candidate and that the examination guidelines had been followed. |
| Q. Will MSI waive the examination requirement? |
| A. In some instances the examination may be waived. The decision to waive the examination is at the sole discretion of Management Science Institute. In general, an examination is most likely to be waived in a case where the candidate has a formal education in a relevant subject area and has well documented work experience in the field for which the candidate is pursuing certification. |
| Q. How long does the complete application review and approval process take? |
| A. The amount of time varies with each application but should take no longer than four weeks we have a complete application. Many factors can influence the time it takes to complete the process. The most common cause for delay is that the candidate has not submitted all the items necessary to complete the application. |
| Q. Will you bill me? Will you send an invoice to my employer? |
| A. No. The required fees must accompany the application. Applications that do not include payment will not be processed. The be held for approximately 30 days to allow a candidate an opportunity to send the payment separately. The application will be destroyed after 30 days if payment is not received. |
| Q. Will MSI release information to third parties pertaining to my application or certification. |
| A. We will only verify that a person has certification through MSI. MSI will not answer any third party questions about the application, nor will we release any other information without the express written consent of the candidate. |
| Q. Will I need to renew my certification annually? Will I ever need to renew my certification? |
| A. You will not need to renew your certification unless you fail to meet the continuing education requirements for your certification. It is the member's responsibility to monitor continuing education requirements, obtain the required continuing education, and report it to Management Science Institute. |
| Q. Can my certification be revoked? |
| A. Yes. Your certification can be revoked if we discover that your application contained inaccurate information that we deem to be substantive or if we discover that the application contained fraudulent information. Your certification may also be revoked for failure to meet continuing education requirements. |
